Technology and Computing - Endnote

What Is EndNote?
EndNote is a widely used bibliographic reference software program that can help you …
-
Store, manage, organize, and format bibliographic references (including images, charts, tables, and figures) to be used in your research papers, theses, dissertations, and other publications
-
Search online bibliographic databases and retrieve references
-
Automatically create and format citations and bibliographies for your research papers (No more poring over your Chicago Manual of Style or APA Publication Manual and spending hours formatting a bibliography, after you’ve already spent days writing the paper!)
Where can I get EndNote?
Which version of EndNote is GSU using?
Georgia State University is currently distributing EndNote X1 for Windows and Macs.
Is there a user's guide available?EndNote User’s Guides (for Windows or Macintosh) can be downloaded in .pdf format from the
EndNote support web site (under “Guides, Tip Sheets, and Information Pages”).
Note: When using connection files, all databases except for the GIL Online catalog require you to insert the current password for that database. Most databases require the current GALILEO password unless otherwise noted. All of the Silverplatter databases also require the username c139432.
Many of the filters you may need come pre-installed with EndNote. More filters are available for download from the EndNote web site. You will need to be sure that the filter you download is for the same database provider utilized by the GSU Library.
To save connection files, filter files and output style files to your computer:
- Save Connection files (file extension is .enz) to your EndNote Connections directory on your PC (C:Program Files>EndNote>Connections).
- Save Filter files (file extension is .enf) to your EndNote Filters directory on your PC (C:Program Files>EndNote>Filters).
- Save output styles (file extension is .ens) to your EndNote Styles directory on your PC (C:Program FilesEndNote X1Styles).

Direct Export to EndNote
Several database vendors support direct export to EndNote. Using this option eliminates the need for a connection file or filter. It allows you to save the references you've selected from a database and then export them directly into your EndNote library. Vendors/databases that currently support direct export include
