Faculty are invited to request library instruction seminars designed to acquaint students with research strategies and resources in specialized academic areas. Due to staff and classroom constraints, the library is not able to offer "general" library information seminars for individual classes. Your class will not be scheduled if you do not have a library research assignment. Please contact your subject liaison or Leslie Madden, Library Instruction Coordinator, if you would like assistance in creating a library research assignment for your class.
Requests should be made at least two weeks prior to desired date and will be filled as library staffing permits. Faculty will receive confirmation by phone and/or E-mail and are expected to accompany their class to the seminar.
Librarians are available to meet with your classes to discuss a variety of topics. Read our Instruction Menu (PDF) for topics that can be covered during library instruction sessions and the approximate amount of time needed to cover each topic. Information literacy is defined as the ability to locate, evaluate, and effectively use information. The Georgia State University Library has developed a set of standards (PDF) that promote these skills as well as general and subject-specific tutorials to introduce students to a research topic or method.
