What is Interlibrary Loan?

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is the process by which a library requests materials from and/or supplies materials to another library. The purpose of interlibrary loan is to obtain, upon request of a library user, materials not available in the user’s local library. Interlibrary Loan Code for the United States

Georgia State University Library Interlibrary Loan services are available only to our currently enrolled students, faculty and staff. Library accounts must be in good standing. Other library users should contact their primary academic, public or corporate library for interlibrary loan services.

How do I log in to ILLiad?

On August 11, library barcode numbers were replaced with a new seven character ID, a letter followed by six randomly generated numbers.  This is your new Library ID.

First time ILLiad users should log in and register using your new Library ID.

Go to <http://webdb.gsu.edu/find> to look up your Library ID.

ILLiad users currently registered with the old 20785... barcode can continue to log in to ILLiad with that number.  Alternately, you can register for a new ILLiad account using your new Library ID.  If you do this and want the new account merged with your original ILLiad account, contact the Interlibrary Loan Office at libill@langate.gsu.edu or (404) 413-2790.

How is ILLiad better than our previous ILL Process?

  1. You will find it easy to submit your interlibrary loan requests on-line.
  2. Your requests will be handled more rapidly and accurately as problems caused by misinterpretation of hand-written requests are eliminated.
  3. ILLiad provides the ability to automate some functions that were previously very time-consuming, thus speeding up the ILL process.
  4. You can get information about the status of your requests, request renewals for loaned items, and resubmit cancelled requests through ILLiad (at any time from any computer workstation that has Web access) without having to call ILL.
  5. ILL personnel are able to serve you better because all data about your requests are stored in a searchable database.

Is security a problem if I use a public workstation?

Not if you use proper procedures. Web browsers cache information and create a history file on the local workstation. This allows a subsequent user of the workstation to access the system under your name using the browser's Back button to recall a page from the cache, or by finding a page with your personal information in the browser's history file. If you are concerned about the security of your interlibrary loan requests, you can take the following steps:

  1. Access ILLiad only from your personal computer or an otherwise secure workstation.
  2. Access ILLiad from a workstation available to ILL users in Interlibrary Loan on the 2nd floor of Library North. This computer is supervised by the Interlibrary Loan staff.
  3. When using a public access workstation:
    • Close Web browser before you leave the workstation. This prevents the Back button from accessing the pages you were using.
    • Log off the computer after completing your ILL request.

Will I see all my older requests when I look at my request history?

Only those requests submitted since the University Library implemented ILLiad will be available in your request history. Periodically ILL will purge old records from ILLiad, but our policy is to keep requests online for several years in order to comply with record keeping requirements of the copyright law.

What is electronic delivery?

Many libraries ship photocopies of articles to ILL in electronic format rather than paper copies. If we receive them in electronic format we are then able to post these articles to a secure password protected website in PDF format (Adobe's Portable Document Format) for your convenience.  If you don't already have an Adobe PDF reader, you can download a free reader at http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html.

Why does my browser say that you're sending a cookie? What's in it?

The Active Server Pages technology that ILLiad uses to provide live reporting for the web sends a Session ID to be stored on your machine. You can refuse this cookie and still be able to use the ILL web pages and ILLiad without any problems.
