MISSION STATEMENT

The Georgia State University Library Catalog Department establishes and maintains bibliographic control over an ever-growing collection of information resources.  These predominantly curriculum-based resources are made available to students, faculty, and staff of Georgia State, an urban research university, and to the citizens of Atlanta, the state of Georgia, and the scholarly community worldwide.  The department provides access to all formats of library materials in the local collection as well as to digital information, both local and remote, by taking optimal advantage of technology tools.  The department creates bibliographic records according to national standards and contributes them to global, networked information databases.  The department also processes materials so that time-to-shelf is minimized, and preserves local collections so they are available to current and future users.
