Creating Persistent Links

A Persistent Link is a URL that points to a specific article that is available online.  Persistent links can be used to point to articles in Electronic Reserves, uLearn, or course syllabi. Many databases include a Persistent Link or Stable URL in the citation.  Use these if they are available.  In order to work with GSU authentication, links should begin with

http://ezproxy.gsu.edu:2048/login?url=

This can be added to persistent links if needed.  Examples of  database generated persistent links:

EBSCO database:
http://ezproxy.gsu.edu:2048/login?url=http://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&db=a9h&AN=32843441&loginpage=Login.asp&site=ehost-live&scope=site

ProQuest database:
http://ezproxy.gsu.edu:2048/login?url=http://proquest.umi.com/pqdweb?did=1618191711&sid=1&Fmt=2&clientId=19356&RQT=309&VName=PQD

JSTOR:
http://ezproxy.gsu.edu:2048/login?url=http://www.jstor.org/stable/25046619

If the database does not include a Persistent URL in the record for the article, you will need to generate a Persistent URL.

1. Search for the article



 

2. Find the article reference



 

3. Click the Find It button



 

4. Check to make sure full text is available, then get the Persistent Link



5. Select and then copy the entire link that begins with http.  The link is long – you need the entire link.



6. Add the link to the course page.

If the article record in the database contains a DOI, you can also use that to generate a Persistent Link using the Citation Linker.

1. Copy the DOI (only the number, not the doi prefix)
2. 10.1016/j.tele.2008.02.001
3. Click Go.
4. Test the Full Text Link.
5. Click Get the link for this item to use in online courses (Create a Persistent Link).
