Brian Kooy

Who Am I?

I am the Liaison Librarian to the Departments of Philosophy, Religious Studies, and the Middle East Institute and the interim collection development librarian to the Department of Sociology.

What Can I Do For You?

  • Develop library collections for the departments listed above

  • Recommend electronic resources and library services to support the curriculum and research needs of these departments

  • Provide general and specialized reference service

  • Teach classes on how to identify, locate, and evaluate sources of information

My academic background includes a B.S. in Music Education from Duquesne University, graduate coursework in Musicology at Roosevelt University, an M.L.I.S. in Library & Information Studies from the University of Alabama, and an M.A. in Philosophy from Georgia State University. My library oriented research interests include computing and information ethics, web usability, training and orientation of new librarians, information literacy across the curriculum, social networking, and creativity in library instruction. My philosophical interests include pre-Socratic, ancient and neo-Platonic philosophy, Augustine studies, metaphysics, and religious ethics.
